Established in 1729, Baltimore is Maryland's largest city with a population of 620,000 residents.  It is the economic driver of the state.  Maryland's proximity to Washington, DC, creates federal jobs and government contracted civilian jobs that support our many federal agencies, and eleven military bases. The government likes to fund its military and other federal agencies and Maryland benefits greatly.  

Maryland boasts one of the best employment rates in the country.  

Maryland maintains one of the highest income levels in the country.

Maryland is one of the best educated states in America.

Maryland has great geography--big city living with a harbor waterway, a lot of state parks for outdoor activities, farm land, mountains, the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean.

Maryland enjoys four seasons. The winters are tolerable and provide a few beautiful snowfalls each winter.  

Maryland has the best crabs you've ever tasted and the coolest state flag in the nation.  

All things considered, Maryland is a great place to spend your post-service life.
